Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment except for Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto won the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
