This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
