The US Firm's Autonomous Cabs Set to Arrive London Roads Starting 2026.
The US-based company Waymo has revealed that its driverless cabs will be on offer for use on London's streets beginning next year.
London Becomes Leading European City for Autonomous Ride-Hailing.
The UK capital will be established as the pioneering European city to launch an autonomous taxi service, akin to those currently familiar in multiple US cities and several American cities using Waymo's advanced systems.
Preliminary Testing Phase to Commence with Human Specialists.
Waymo announced that its cars are presently heading to London and will commence driving on the capital's streets in the next few weeks with safety drivers in control.
Waymo – originally formed as a derivative from the tech giant's self-driving car initiative and part of the larger corporate umbrella – indicated it would scale up operations and partner with the government transport body and London's transport agency to acquire the essential permissions to offer totally self-driving trips by 2026.
Growing Presence in Self-Driving Transport Across London.
Additional organizations, including Uber and the UK-based tech company Wayve, have also declared their own strategies to test self-driving vehicles in the city next year.
This is in response to the government officials confirming it would accelerate guidelines enabling public testing to take place before legislation allowing self-driving vehicles is enacted in full.

Comprehensive Launch Anticipated After Regulatory Framework Comes into Force.
A broader introduction of autonomous cabs is projected in the UK after the related legislation fully takes effect in the latter part of 2027.

Waymo presently has links to Britain after opening its first European technical center in Oxford in 2019.
It is also launching offerings in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover EVs, marking its sole additional current project beyond the US.
“Our experience shows how to responsibly scale totally self-driving ride-hailing, and we are eager to extend the advantages of our platform to the UK,” stated Tekedra Mawakana, noting that the technology was “making roads safer and transportation more available”.

Waymo introduced its self-driving vehicles in 2020 and now states it has carried over 10 million customers in the United States.
Despite some troubling occurrences, Waymo stated that data showed that cars controlled by people were involved in incidents that harmed walkers at a much higher rate than its autonomous fleet.
