Supporters Demand Detainment of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who breached a fence and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the Australian man pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed features clips of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, earning a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
