Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months following instigating derogatory songs directed at their manager, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year career with Leeds finished through agreement in August.

One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull his beloved club away from the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager

The pair had a past before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford aiming to revive his career.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
