Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
