Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton manager - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
