Catastrophe Hits as Accidental Blast at Police Station in Indian-administered Kashmir Takes Nine Lives
A devastating explosion at a police station in Indian-administered Kashmir has led to the loss of nine people and injuries to thirty-two more, according to authority reports.
The incident happened when a stockpile of seized explosive materials unintentionally detonated during processing activities.
Sequence of Incidents
The detonation took place on Friday evening at the Nowgam police station, where detonation agents taken from Faridabad in the northern state of Haryana province were being kept briefly.
Local security director declared that the detonation substances were awaiting scientific analysis when a "extremely tragic" incident during handling resulted in their explosion at approximately 23:20 local time.
Official Statements
Security forces verified that this was an "unintentional explosion" and as opposed to a terror incident. "Different conjectures regarding the reason of this incident is unnecessary," highlighted the security director during a press briefing.
The police station experienced extensive destruction from the explosion, with adjacent buildings also being affected by the strong explosion.
Impact and Fatalities
Multiple vehicles were "engulfed in flames and reduced to charred husks, with fragments distributed across the location," according to authority statements.
"The power of the detonation was so powerful that some physical fragments were found in close-by residences, approximately 100-200 meters distant the law enforcement facility," stated an police contact.
The bulk of the victims were law enforcement personnel, along with scientific examination staff, two investigative imaging experts, and a clothing professional who was accompanying the group.

The region's Regional Leader expressed commiserations and declared that an probe had been directed into the devastating event.
