Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
